COOL SUMMERTIME COOKING
What do you love about summertime in Minnesota? It’s warm, often really hot. It marks the return of long languid evenings, band concerts by the lake, boating and biking. There are family vacations, cookouts, spectacular thunderstorms, and time to enjoy the cabin. There are weddings and graduation parties. And, of course, there is Daylight Savings Time to give you time to golf or garden. (Did I ever mention how much I hate getting up an hour earlier? I don’t care what the clock says, it’s still an hour earlier!)
You don’t want to heat up the house. In fact, you don’t really want to cook, but you can’t afford to eat out every night. Here’s an idea: Cook some pasta. Throw in that leftover chicken from last night’s meal. Toss in a few vegetables (asparagus, onions, peppers, peas), fresh or cooked. Add some KEN DAVIS BAR-B-Q-SAUCE and some olive oil and/or cream. Sprinkle with shredded cheese. Voila! Dinner!
Summer is the time for simple, top-of-stove or grilled foods, salads, sandwiches. Oh! And whatever is fresh from the garden or farmers’ market! To get you started, try some of the recipes in this issue. DON'T FORGET TO CHECK OUT THE VEGETARIAN CORNER FOR MORE IDEAS. Set a bottle of KEN DAVIS BAR-B-Q-SAUCE on the table to use instead of catsup. You'll be surprised how good it is on French fries, sandwiches, eggs, and even cottage cheese. Use your imagination!
